3. Cookies
The websites of GERB use cookies. Cookies are text files that are placed and stored on a computer system via an internet browser.

Many websites and servers use cookies. Many cookies contain a so-called cookie-ID. A cookie-ID is an unambiguous identifier of the cookie. It consists of a string of characters by way of which websites and servers may be assigned to the specific internet browser in which the cookie had been stored. This makes it possible for the websites visited and servers to differentiate between the individual browsers of the person affected and other internet browsers that contain other cookies. A particular internet browser can be recognised again and identified by way of this unambiguous cookie-ID.

By deploying cookies GERB may offer the users of this website services that are more user-friendly, which would not be possible if the cookie were not placed.

Using a cookie enables the information and offers made on our website to be optimised for the benefit of the user. As has already been mentioned, cookies make it possible for us to recognise visitors to our website. The purpose of this recognition is to make the usage of our website easier for our users. The person affected may at any time prevent the placement of cookies by our website by means of a corresponding setting of the internet browser used and thus permanently object to the placement of cookies. Furthermore cookies that have already been placed may at any time be deleted via an internet browser or other software programmes. This is possible in all standard internet browsers. If the person affected deactivates the placement of cookies in the internet browser this may, under certain circumstances, mean that not all functions of our website may be used to their full extents.

4. Collection of General Data and Information
The website of GERB gathers data and information every time the website is called up. These general data and information are stored in the log files of the server. The data collected are (1) browser type used and the respective version, (2) the operating system used by the accessing system, (3) the website, from which an accessing system reaches our website (a so-called referrer), (4) the sub-websites via which an accessing system had been guided to our website, (5) the date and time of an access to the website, (6) an Internet Protocol Address (IP-Address), (7) the internet service provider of the accessing system and (8) data and information that serve the purpose of averting danger in the event of attacks upon our information technology systems.

Re (8): in the context of anti-spam measures separate cookies are used that are deployed exclusively for the technical optimisation of our website.

When using these general data and information GERB does not draw any conclusions pertaining to the person affected. This information is rather required in order to (1) correctly deliver the contents of our website, (2) optimise the contents of our website, (3) guarantee the permanent functional capability of our information technological systems and the technology of our website as well as (4) to supply to the prosecuting authorities the information required for the criminal investigation in the event of a cyber attack. These anonymously collected data and information are thus evaluated by GERB on the one hand statistically and on the other with the aim of increasing the degree of data protection and data security in our company in order, in the final analysis, to ensure an optimal level of protection for the personal data processed by us. The anonymous data of the server log files are stored separated from all personal data supplied by an affected person.

Use of the GeoLite2 Database for Geolocation

This website uses the GeoLite2 database that is supplied by the provider MaxMind Inc. and hosted by GERB and/or third parties. In the GeoLite2 database the IP addresses used are assigned to rough location/geo-location data on the basis of the country of origin from where the IP address comes. In order to improve the search results, to supply you with more appropriate information and to preset certain website configurations adapted to yourself with the aim of making your visit to our sites more pleasant (e.g. language settings) your country of organ is determined with the aid of GeoLite2 using your IP address. No personal data shall be forwarded to third parties when doing so.

Piwik/Matomo
This website uses Piwik, an open-source software for statistical analyses of user accesses. The data collected is never sent to other servers or to third parties; it is used in anonymized form to improve our services. IP addresses are stored in Piwik without the final tuple. You can also deactivate data recording by Piwik.

Google Analytics
This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google Inc. ("Google"). Google Analytics uses so-called "cookies", text files that are stored on your computer and that allow an analysis of the use of the website by you. The information generated by the cookie about your use of this website is usually transmitted to a Google server in the USA and stored there. However, if IP anonymisation is activated on this website, your IP address will be shortened by Google beforehand within member states of the European Union or other parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases will the full IP address be sent to a Google server in the US and shortened there. On behalf of the operator of this website, Google will use this information to evaluate your use of the website, to compile reports on website activity and to provide other services related to website activity and internet usage to the website operator. The IP address provided by Google Analytics as part of Google Analytics will not be merged with other Google data. In addition, you may prevent the collection by Google of the data generated by the cookie and related to your use of the website (including your IP address) as well as the processing of this data by Google by downloading the browser plug-in available under the following link and install: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
We use Google's "anonymizelp" feature to shorten the IP address. Google describes the feature as follows: "The IP anonymization feature in Analytics sets the last octet for IPv4 user IP addresses and zero for the last 80 bits in the memory of IPv6 addresses, just after being sent to the IP for authentication Analytics data collection network, so the full IP address will never be written to disk. "
