#1 Foundations of Building Isolation

The integration of building isolations has become a necessary standard in contemporary urban construction, driven by the desire to reside in proximity to public transportation hubs such as subways or train stations. The three most common elastic mountings – steel springs, discrete elastomeric bearings, and full-surface elastomeric bearings – find application in this context. Utilizing such solutions allows the creation of sophisticated living spaces in close proximity to public transportation.

Vibration control systems are not only deployed to protect the recipient, such as residential buildings, but also directly at the source of vibration – in the trackbed. Depending on the project, various systems present themselves, and this workshop will shed light on the diverse options available.

Tuned Mass Dampers find applicability across a range of structures, with optimal effectiveness observed in slender and lightweight constructions like expansive floors, towers, footbridges, and more. In this presentation, we will acquaint you with potential applications, elaborate on factors to consider for the ideal Tuned Mass Damper specifications, and draw insights from diverse project instances to enrich your understanding.

Vibrations can be controlled – wherever they occur. They can be caused by an endless number of types of machines. In our basic workshop, we give an overview of different machine types and how to come to the best solution for a vibration isolation system. More deepdive sessions on selected machines types and topics such as centrifuges, forging hammers and heat pumps will follow.

#5 Seismic Protection of Buildings, Machinery and Equipment

Many regions live with the constant threat of earthquakes. Machines, facilities, buildings, and bridges are damaged or destroyed and human lives are in danger. GERB develops and delivers technical solutions to protect against such forces of nature. Our spring elements and Viscodampers® are successfully applied for protection against earthquakes.
