Optimal damping with GERB visco-elastic dampers

GERB Viscodampers® are viscous elastic vibration dampers utilizing the dissipative properties of highly viscous fluids to dampen movements in all spatial directions simultaneously. They basically consist out of three components:

The lower part of the damper forms the housing, which is filled with the damping medium. The upper part or piston is immersed in the viscous medium and can move freely up to the housing walls. By shearing and displacing the highly viscous fluid Viscodampers® create approximately velocity proportional damping forces. Mechanical vibration energy is converted into heat and dissipated into the surroundings.

 

They can be used as a single device or in combination with spring elements to provide the required degree of damping. Viscodampers® are effective against both, shock loads and continuous vibrations. They have many benefits such as a robust design, which provides high damping values in small spaces and which is almost maintenance free.

 

Whether for the elastic mounting of forging hammers and presses, turbines, pumps and blowers or for earthquake protection of buildings and structures as well as in tuned-mass dampers, GERB Viscodampers® are effectively used in a wide range of applications.
